Sales in the Market Services sector in the Basque Country increased by 5.4% in the third quarter of 2023
In the cumulative total of the first three quarters of 2023, sales rose by 7.3%
Sales in the Other Market Services sector in the Basque Country increased by 5.4% in the third quarter of 2023 in relation to the same quarter of the previous year, at constant prices and once calendar effects had been eliminated, according to Eustat data. This sector includes the services offered by the sectors of Transport, Hospitality, Information & Communications and Corporate Services Activities.
Compared to the previous quarter, at constant prices and once corrected for seasonal effects, sales rose by 0.1% in the third quarter of 2023.
Within the Other Market Services sector, there was a positive year-on-year evolution of real sales (at constant prices) in the sectors of Transport and Storage where growth reached 13.9%; in Information and Communication with an increase of 5.5%; and in Hospitality, up 1.8%. In contrast, there was a downturn in sales of 4.5% in Administrative Activities & Auxiliary Services and in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities, where the decrease was 1.1%.
Comparing the third quarter of 2023 with the second quarter of the year, the sectors that experienced a negative result in their sales were Hospitality, with a reduction of 1.8%; Administrative Activities & Auxiliary Services, with a drop of 1.2%; and Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities, which lost 0.4% of its sales in relation to the previous quarter. In contrast, sales increased in Information and Communications and in Transport and Storage by 2.1% and 1.2% respectively, all at constant prices and once corrected for seasonal effects.

By province, there was a year-on-year increase in the sales index of 9.3% in Gipuzkoa, of 4.9% in Álava and in Bizkaia it was up 3.5%.
The index of people employed in these services as a whole for the Basque Country had a positive variation of 1.8%, in respect of the third quarter of 2022. In relation to the previous quarter, the increase was 0.1%.
